Can't sleep, might as well blog!

I woke up to Smokey barking...totally freaked me out b/c he only barks when he hears something. After checking the doors and windows and seeing nothing, I layed back down. I had this gut feeling to check the phone... I have no clue why. So I turn the phone on....and nothing! No dial tone or anything. I had just spoken to Aaron hours before and it was working fine. I checked the other headset thinking it was just the phone. Nope, nothing on the other one either. I check to make sure it's plugged in, and it is. I get up and turn on the lights and get my laptop out to get the number to the phone company. By this time, I'm freaked out. I hate staying in this house alone. I turn the phone on again and this time it has a busy signal. What the heck is going on? I know this is crazy, but the thought that someone has cut my phone line has crossed my mind a few times by now. Finally my computer is up and I'm trying to find the phone number. I check the phone again and it works! What is going on??

So it's 12:20am and I'm up! Totally freaked out and can't sleep. Aaron and I have been debating whether or not to get a security system installed. I really want to for the safety aspect and for a little peace of mind. I know we supposedly live in a nice area and from what we have heard it's safe up here. BUT that doesn't mean that nothing could happen. ADT has been by our house a few times. I might have them come do thier sales pitch this week to see what they offer. I hate even thinking about spending the money each month, but at this point I think it would be worth having my sanity back. I don't sleep much at all anymore. I'm up almost every hour checking the doors and the windows. Any noise I hear, I'm up. I know I'm crazy, trust me, I know! I just don't like living out in the country. And I'm totally freaked out and fear having a home invasion or something bad happening to Jacob and I. If anyone has a security system, let me know what you think of it and if it's worth it.

So anyways!! Enough about all that.. Jacob is good. Yesterday was a pretty rough day for him. I'm not sure if he is sick or if it's his teeth or if it's a growth spurt. He kept spitting up/throwing up and he felt pretty warm but never had a temperature. He was pretty fussy for most of the day which caused him to nap a lot. Hopefully today will be a better day. I want to go into town and get him a few new outfits. He is growing like a weed and is barely fitting into 9 months. He's is too tall. He is now 19.09 pounds and 27 inches long. He can fit pretty good into 12mth clothes already. It's a little lose in the middle, but the length fits perfect. At this rate, he'll be into 18mth by Christmas. Hopefully he will stop getting so tall and begin to fill out his middle.

Here are some new pics of him from the last two weeks.

Swimming for the first time in the pool. He didn't like it that much.

Mommy had to get in with him

I was taking his shirt off and this was too cute to pass up! I had to take a pic!

This is his new way of sitting in his bouncer. It's time to pack it up. He's out grown it!

I swear he's a little man! Chilling watching tv.

He couldn't wait to tear the paper up. I'm not sure if this will work for future pictures. He wants everything within his reach now.
By the way, Aaron is doing good. He is going to get something called a majic jack so that he can call family back in the states. He doesn't have a phone line set up in his room yet since he will be leaving soon and heading to another base over there. We have about 23 more weeks left. Time is going by too slowly!! Hurry up holidays! I'm ready to get this year over with so we can start counting down the last few weeks.

Hanging in there

It hasn't even been a full week yet. The time is dragging by! I have been trying to stay busy, but at night after Jacob goes to bed it gets pretty lonely. Only about 178 days to go. I'm sure once the holidays start to come, time will fly by.

I cut grass!! This is a huge accomplishment for me. I have never in 28 years cut grass. It's a man thing in my book. Men take the trash out and mow the yard. But without a man around, I'm left to do it. It wasn't THAT bad at all. I might have looked like an idiot driving around on the mower in a few places more than once, but I got the job done. That's all that matters. Since our yard is so big, I have to do it in sections because of Jacob. So yesterday I did that back, and today I did one side of the front. I even went yesterday and bought a trimmer/edger because the one Aaron has is gas and very hard to start. I bought the new Black & Decker Grasshog. It was easy to assemble and very easy to use. So not only do I cut grass now, I also edge! Oh yeah!

Jacob now has two teeth! The other night he was a little cranky and chewing on his hand like crazy, so I gave him some teething tablets. While putting them in his mouth to dissolve, I felt something sharp next to his other tooth but it was shorter. Another tooth has popped up! I can't believe how quickly he is growing up. Everyone said they grow up quick, but I didn't really believe them. I feel like I don't have a little baby anymore. He now sits up like a champ. He still occansionally wobbles back and forth, but for the most part he is really good at it. I even put him in the shopping cart at Lowe's last night for the first time. I probably looked like a first time mom trying to get the shopping cart cover on the cart and then trying to get him seated and buckled in. I swear it took me like 10 mins to figure this out. But he was in there, protected from the dirty germs with his new shopping cart cover. He seemed to like it until he got tired and cranky. Then it was time to go home.

He is slowly starting to crawl. Meaning I am going to have to start baby proofing some things soon. He only crawls backwards by pushing himself back right now. He starts to go back and forth with his body in the crawling position, but doesn't know how to push with his legs to go forward yet. So he ends up pushing with his hands backwards.

I swear he can say mom and mama now. He hasn't said it and looked at me yet. But when he is tired and starts to whine, he says it. Or maybe it's just the way he whines. But it sounds like he is calling for me. I think it's cute, even though he probably has no clue what he's saying.

Jacob has really begun to eat like a big boy. He loves his food. Hince the fact that he is getting so big! He barely fits into 9 month clothes anymore. I went to walmart yesterday to get him some more food, but they didn't have much selection of the brand I use. I really hate Gerber food..it's expensive, and compared to the brand I use it doesn't have the same nutritional value. So now I am going to start making my own baby food. I've done a little research on it, and it seems farely easy. If he keeps getting more teeth like this, I'm sure he will be able to start eating more solid foods in the coming months. Which will make my life a lot easier.

Other than that, Jacob & I are doing pretty good. We miss our daddy like crazy. But we are counting down the days until he gets back. I think it's like 178 days left. My parents will be here in two weeks for Labor Day weekend. So that is something to look forward to. :-)

New pics of the wonderful little man!

This isn't a good pic, but you can kind of see his tiny mowhawk..finally getting more hair on top!
Here is the link to youtube of a new video of Jacob that I took today..enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgKdlz2n9mM

183 days to go

Aaron is officially gone now. So the countdown begins. It was extremely sad and hard to say goodbye. But it's the Navy, so we have to do what we have to. Jacob and I are doing good so far without our daddy.

I'm already trying to think of little projects that I can do myself before Aaron comes back. I might tackle the bathroom first. Start small first. But I do want to have our bedroom finished before he leaves. We have just a regular plain bedroom now, and I want to make it more relaxing and spa like. I have a few months to decide what I want to do with it.

Last night I tackled my first little project by putting up some privacy film on the front door windows. We have two sidelight windows next to our front door. I had bought some sheer (only curtains I could find) panels for them and they semi-worked. You couldn't really see in unless you were trying to look through the windows. I had to put them up b/c we had some really strange guy approach our door one day while Aaron was gone. We didn't have a house phone yet and Aaron had our cell phone. I wasn't going to answer the door but the guy could see me in the living room so he wasn't leaving. I tried asking him what he wanted through the window, but couldn't really hear him. So I opened the door - yes I now realize that I should have NEVER done that! especially since this guy looked pretty rough. He said he had run out of gas and needed help. I was really scared so said really quickly that I was sorry and couldn't help him and closed the door really quick. Aaron came home shortly after this and ended up helping the guy...even after the guy told Aaron "That lady in there is a b*tch! She slammed the door on me!". Needless to say, I won't be helping anyone else that comes to my door. We tried to do the good thing. THEN I had yet another strange man come to my door yesterday morning. This is after I have the sheer panels up. I guess he could see my shaddow through them and wouldn't leave my door either. I wasn't going to answer the door b/c I was in the middle of feeding Jacob. It ended up being one of the construction guys from next door who wanted to use our electricity...um no!! The bill is already too high!

So after all this and knowing that at night you could see straight into the house, I decided we were going to either frost the windows or see if Lowes had some film. Thankfully Lowes did have some nice decorative film that worked the charm. Aaron even put in a peep hole in the door! I am really happy the way everything turned out. I also made a little sign for the next visitor. I don't want anymore weird annoying people at my door. It might look a little tacky, but I really don't care at the momment. This will work until I can find another one.

New pics of Jacob from this week -
All smiles...like always

Little snaggle tooth is now chewing on everything! Even his paci has teeth marks!

Chillin on the boppy pillow. Life is good.

The fence is finished! For the most part..Aaron still wants to cut the tops of the posts and trim some of the metal fence down in some areas. Here is what it looks like.

Take care!

Growing up too fast!

Jacob finally has a tooth! On Friday he was chewing on his toys like crazy and I could tell his teeth were bothering him. As I was putting a teething tablet in his mouth, I felt something hard in the front. Sure enough, it's a tooth! It's on the bottom front. You can't really see it right now, but you can feel it. It has broken through the gums and is slowly coming up.

Jacob has also begun rolling like crazy this weekend. Whenever we lay him down to play, he automatically rolls over. It's fun to watch, but then as soon as he's on his tummy he gets frustrated and starts to whine. He hasn't learned how to roll back over yet. I'm sure that is coming soon.

And one last accomplishment for Jacob is that he is now sitting up decently. I still surround him with pillows b/c I want to make sure he doesn't fall over and hurt himself. It is so amazing how fast he is growing up. It's great that he is learning and becoming a little boy, but it's sad because I feel like he isn't a baby anymore. The baby stage came and went too quickly. I posted a new video of Jacob on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UCqZmofs9c).

Here are some new pics...

Daddy & J sleeping like ALWAYS!

He never sleeps on his tummy, but he was so tired and couldn't stop rolling around, so he ended up falling asleep like this. ((I know it's not safe, but I watched him carefully!))

His first tooth, you have to look closely...he didn't like me doing this. This is the best pic I could get.

Update!

We have been in Gulfport for a few weeks now. It has been non-stop since we began this adventure. After getting back from Atlanta, we recieved all of our household goods from the moving company. Thankfully we didn't have anything broken or stolen. Which is pretty good considering almost everyone I have spoken to have had something stolen. I have been unpacking like crazy. My parents came down the first weekend we were here. My dad came to help Aaron with the fence...which seems to be an ongoing project. This last weekend our great friends from Sicily - Katrina & Rudy, came to visit us. They are stationed down in New Orleans now. They have 3 wonderful children, and their newest little girl is only 6 weeks younger than Jacob. I keep joking that she is going to be Jacob's girlfriend. I'm starting him off young!

I have the majority of the house unpacked. Nothing is hanging on the walls yet. I want to pick out a color and paint while Aaron is gone. But I'm having a hard time picking a color. I have decided not to paint the bookcases, for now... Men and their stupid views on painting wood. They are so old school. I am hoping that I can find some house projects to do while Aaron is gone, and hopefully that will keep me busy so I won't have time to think about how many days until he comes back.

Aaron is outside right now working on the fence. He has most of it finished. He has some really great friends here who have helped out tremendously. But unfortunately they are all in his unit and were deployed this week. It's sad to see everyone go, especially knowing that Aaron is leaving in a week or so. But then the countdown for him to come home will begin. I am hoping that the time flies by. I hate thinking about how much Aaron is going to miss out on not being here with Jacob. We are going to video Aaron reading a few of Jacob's books and I'll have Jacob watch one every night. So hopefully this will help Jacob know his daddy's voice and see him.

Jacob is great! He's now starting to sit up by himself. My great friend Katrina recommended this little drum from Leap Frog that you sit in between his legs and makes noises and says the alphabet when he hits it. It helps balance him and he has a blast hitting it. Jacob is also eating like a little fat kid. He loves solids! He gets cereal in the morning and a veggie at night. I would say he loves all veggies, but last night was the first time he tried sweet peas and he hated them! Go figure! Aaron hates them as well! So far we have tried all the veggies. Next week we might try a fruit. I'm sure he will love it. Jacob is now weighing 18 pounds..what a porker! He has some huge thunder thighs! He is diffiantly a growing boy! Only about 2 1/2 weeks until his big 6 month appointment and of course more shots. Jacob has also been sleeping through the night like a champ! He does occasionally wake up with a wet diaper. But 9 times out of 10, he goes right back to sleep after I change him.

Poop update! haha! We have been trying a new formula that is soy based. We weren't too sure about it at first, but so far he seems to be somewhat regular. He has had a poopy diaper almost every day. :) I'm not sure if we will keep him on this, but so far it seems to be working.

Aaron will be leaving soon. I can't say on here the exact day, but it's coming up. I'm sad to see this day come. But I'm ready to get this over and done with. I am hoping he will be back before Jacob's 1st birthday.

I hope I have updated you all on everything. Sorry we haven't posted anything sooner. We are trying to get in a normal schedule. We are somewhat rushed to get everything we need to get done before Aaron leaves. After that, it's all up to me!

He loves his food!!!

Before we got all of our household goods..he had to sleep in his old pack-n-play...He's too big for it now!
